XEMC is based in Xiangtan, China, a historic city that is the birthplace of Chairman Mao Zedong, the founding father of the People's Republic of China. It originated from the Central Electric Equipment Factory of the Resources Committee, established in 1936, and changed its name to Xiangtan Electric MFG. Group Corporation Ltd. in 2007. As of the end of 2023, the Group has four wholly-owned subsidiaries, occupies an area of over 1900 mu (313 acres), and employs more than 5000 staff.
